Hello, my name is Lynn and I run Sew & Sew, providing sewing classes for adults and children in South West London.
Sewing, designing and making have always been part of my life, ever since I began making outfits for my toys. Then as soon as I could use a sewing machine, I made my own clothes and eventually – having collected a first class fashion and textiles degree along the way – I spent 10 years designing children’s wear for high street brands including Woolworths’ Ladybird, Adams, H&M, and ranges for Jasper Conran and John Rocha at Debenhams.
Now, as my family are growing up I’ve returned to my roots, to share my enthusiasm and knowledge to a wider audience through Sew & Sew.
I ventured into the world of teaching when I started my Saturday morning sewing class for children and teens and an after school sewing club for years three to six. Alongside my group classes I’ve provided 1-2-1 tuition, contributed as an assessor to several of the girls’ Duke of Edinburgh awards and given practical help and advice to students taking GCSE and A Level Fashion and Textiles.
I believe sewing is a real craft: one that takes time and patience to learn but will reward you in so many ways – not least having acquired a valuable life skill.
From learning the basics with my Start Sewing projects to brushing up your skills on the slightly more challenging ones, there’s something we can offer everyone.
If you prefer to keep things low key, you can take some 1-2-1 tuition time. Or if you want to make it more social, bring two or three friends and you can have fun while you work on individual or group projects.
If I can encourage you to pick up a needle and thread, sit at sewing machine again or start to design your own toys, home wares and clothes, then I believe it will have been time well spent for all of us.
I hope to welcome you to Sew & Sew class very soon.
