Carry on Sewing

Cotton pj bottoms, from £60

Learn new skills and techniques whilst making your own set of PJ bottoms. This is a 4hour class for moderately experienced sewers an an ideal introduction to making your own clothes and using your own bought patterns. It's also a great follow-on from our Start Sewing classes. Sizes 8 to 18.

During the class you will learn how to:

  • Work from a pattern and read their markings and symbols

  • Lay the pattern and cut out fabric accurately, following and measuring the grain lines

  • Understand the basics of clothing construction including pinning, sewing seams and pressing

  • Sewing straight, curves and corners

  • Reverse stitch (lock stitch)

  • Sew a hem

  • Insert elastic

We will provide you with sewing equipment if you don't have any.

What to bring

  • 2.5m of a dress-making weight cotton fabric

  • matching thread

  • 2m of matching or co-ordinated ribbon for the waist drawstring

  • A sewing machine if you have one

Not to worry if you don't, you can use one of ours but on a first come first served basis. Please contact me to reserve one.
